Preciosa Introduces Breathtaking New Collection - Crystal Automata

Bohemian lighting brand excites with fascinating concept inspired by the classical four elements theory

Fire, Water, Air and Earth- the classical four elements is a concept that was proposed by the Ancient Greeks to explain the nature and complexity of all matter in terms of simpler substances. Greek philosophers dedicated themselves to this concept and since then, the four elements have been the subjects of allegoration and inquiry at various levels – as well as of many artistic interpretations.

Crystal Automata created by Michael Vasku & Andreas Klug, Creative Directors at PRECIOSA Lighting combines the fascination of Fire, Water, Air and Earth with the beguiling motion of automata, reinforcing both with the many facets of crystal.

In the Crystal Automata collection, the mechanical technology is exposed to view so that the viewer may witness motion in action, appreciate the complexity of the mechanics and wonder at its perfection.

The nature of these mechanisms is cyclical – without beginning or end, they run in continuous movement for eternity. In the Crystal Automata collection the movement of light is set in motion, forever changing but never ceasing; bringing the concept of the chandelier and its unique sparkling properties, through the ages and into our contemporary present.

WATER - An automaton that is inspired by rainfall. Created from 116 wires, with a 2320 crystal almond trimmed waterfall that flows in endless motion. At its base, the crystals touch the water level.

EARTH – The automaton‘s core is created from an immense handcut piece of crystal (dia. 25 cm). This piece is placed at the centre of an armillary sphere consisting of three concentric circles. The outer ring is driven by external force while the inner ones move freely. The bowl is filled with quartz sand- the basic raw material of crystal.

AIR – An automaton created from 9 pairs of handcrafted wings with golden hinges. Each pair of opaque wings are shaped uniquely and arrange in a spiral moving individually while also synchronously moving as a flock.

FIRE – The automaton consists of a monumental 1 metre sphere crafted with 150 handmade black crystal pieces. It slowly rotates on its axis floating above a bowl of gold stardust and flickering light, giving the effect of real fire.
